A beautifully wrapped gift starts with a few coordinated materials. You do not need a drawer full of supplies. Choose a paper you love, add a ribbon that contrasts with it, and finish with a handwritten tag.
1. Choose a small palette
Try ivory paper with a botanical pattern and deep red ribbon, or plain kraft paper with blush ribbon. Repeat those colors across your gifts so the whole collection feels intentional.
2. Measure before cutting
Wrap the paper loosely around the box to check coverage. Allow enough overlap to secure the seam, then trim the ends so they fold neatly without layers of bulk. Save small scraps for tags.
3. Make the folds do the work
Place the box upside down on the paper. Fold one long edge inward for a clean seam and tape it to the other edge. On each end, press the sides inward, crease the triangles, and fold the flaps over.
4. Tie a simple bow
Wrap ribbon around the box once or twice, leaving enough length to tie. Keep the loops roughly equal, then trim the tails. Velvet ribbon can look generous even in a very simple knot.
5. Add a note that matters
Write more than a name when you have time: “For your quiet Sunday mornings” or “I saw this and thought of you.” Keep embellishments age-appropriate and avoid loose small pieces on gifts for young children.
A little plan helps.
