Making room for God in a full life.

Calendars, launches, grandkids, and deadlines. Small, realistic ways to keep God at the center of a very busy week.

Even Jesus stepped away

If anyone ever had a full schedule, it was Jesus. Crowds followed Him everywhere. And yet the Gospels keep mentioning the times He slipped away to pray.

“And in the morning, rising up a great while before day, he went out, and departed into a solitary place, and there prayed.”Mark 1:35 (KJV)

A full life is a gift. But a full life with no quiet in it gets heavy. The invitation is not to do more. It is to rest in Someone.

“Come unto me, all ye that labour and are heavy laden, and I will give you rest.”Matthew 11:28 (KJV)

Small habits that fit real calendars

  • Five minutes before the phone. Read a short passage, like a Psalm or a few verses from a Gospel, before you check email.
  • Pray through your calendar. Look at today’s meetings and appointments, and pray for each person you will see.
  • Put Scripture where your eyes already go. A verse on your lock screen, a card by the coffee maker, a sticky note on your monitor.
  • Use the in-between moments. School pickup lines, waiting rooms, and walks are perfect for a quiet prayer or a worship song.
  • Protect a Sabbath rhythm. Choose a stretch of time each week with no work, no laptop, and room for church, family, and rest.

Do the work as worship

Faith does not switch off when the laptop opens. Building something, serving a client well, or cooking dinner for the family can all be done with gratitude and care.

“And whatsoever ye do, do it heartily, as to the Lord, and not unto men.”Colossians 3:23 (KJV)

Be still

“Be still, and know that I am God.”Psalm 46:10 (KJV)

A little practice

Set a gentle reminder for the middle of your workday. When it goes off, close your eyes for one minute, breathe, and say, “Lord, I am Yours. Help me with the next thing.”
